GRIND Styles the Many Patchwork Garments of sacai for VOL. 89
Chitose Abe of sacai has surely come a long way from her time working for the illustrious Comme des Garçons fashion house, separating herself from the ever-growing giant to establish her name within the competitive industry. With each collection showcasing Abe’s bold arrangements of materials and patterns, every succeeding range becomes a quite a feat to style and yet GRIND succeeds once again.
Though minimal in art direction — with its grey-scale choice of backgrounds and prop-barren set — the editorial puts each piece at the forefront. The modeling talents of actor Yosuke Kubozuka provide a fitting canvas for the colorful brushstrokes of sacai’s designs to reveal their vibrancy. Often mixing militaristic silhouettes with ribbon cut swatches of Native American prints as well as combining the nylon toolings of a souvenir jacket with more rigid denim chore coats, the Japanese label has proved its mastery over patchwork.
Military coats, sleeveless knits, split jackets, and much more find their place here, so make sure to check out the full set of imagery below for the full experience and head over to GRIND mag’s website for more updates and editorials.
