Neshu Design's '20 Collection Fuses Japanese Heritage with American Workwear

Neshu Design, a Los Angeles-based garment design studio, draws from designer Daiki Fukuoka’s personal immigration from Japan to Los Angeles as well as his extensive work in the garment manufacturing scene as he manifests his vision for everyday essentials.

Initially launched in 2018, Neshu Design spawned after Daiki worked closely with designer Michael Tapia. Daiki began learning about production while researching timeless vintage pieces and the functional designs that constructed each garment. After 10 years of experience, Daiki launched Neshu Design, which stands for “PERSONALITY” in the Japanese dialect. The collection is a combination of Japanese heritage such as fabrics and materials with and American workwear influence, namely production methods and functionality. The seemingly casual yet formal garments follow earth tones, coming in variations of blacks, whites, and military olive. The Boxed Sphere Hoodie is a heavyweight sweater with a cropped fit while display minimal designs such as the plastisol print of "WHERE DO WE COME FROM WHAT ARE WE WHERE ARE WE GOING" on the back. Wide Silhouette Tuck Pants, which also come in a straight design, feature a high waist and dropped crotch with a tool pocket on the back knee, an homage to American workwear. Meanwhile, their Side Slit Pullover Shirt, a half-button up collarless style, highlights drape and shape with a storage chest pocket, side slits for breathability and drape, and drawcords on the hems.
