Silver Mag Discusses Collaboration with The North Face x HYKE
Since its inception in 2018, The North Face collaboration with HYKE has been a fan-favorite due its fashion-forward sensibilities towards the iconic outdoor brand’s signature garments. Four seasons later, the collaboration seems to be coming towards an end, though not necessarily permanently. Silver Mag sat down with Ryo Takanashi, The North Face’s business manager, and HYKE designer Hideaki Yoshihara to learn more about the organic nature of the collaboration series.
The two initially talked about working together back in 2012, around the time HYKE was just about to launch. While Yoshihara of HYKE always wore The North Face products, the two labels waited for an organic match in terms in imagery and direction, ultimately leading to the launch in Spring/Summer ‘18. The interview discusses further about technical decisions for design, color palettes, fabric, and production. Yoshihara talks about his fascination with Gore-Tex as that fabric has not been utilized in HYKE, the inception of the Geodome 4 tent, photographer Taro Mizutani’s influence on the collections, and sustainability for future design
