meanswhile Autumn/Winter '20
Outdoors gear has always been of utmost focus for meanswhile, and while others make use of the same utilitarian styles ad nauseum, the Japanese label continues to be a bit more eccentric as they modify and tweak often enough for it to be their signature. Autumn/Winter ‘20, which draws from militaria, camping, and menswear alike, drives home an aesthetic replete of zippers, shrouding hoods, and copious layering.
A few staples make a return from past seasons, dosing in their webbing-filled necklines and unique plackets, but while these express familiarity to devotees, the newfound garments arrive as brilliant acts of fan service. Outerwear, which beats out the diversity seen in the past, starts strong with protective and modifiable ponchos while then further impressing with a range of scarves whose modularity is a result of a radial arrangement of zippers. Alongside, the brand even turns sleeping bags into wearable equipment as it layers and cowls atop a full uniform of technical essentials. Elsewhere, BDUs add a bit more normalcy with equivalent function, bombers split down the middle with a removable center panel, and reshaped B3s take seat in not only their standard forms but also some vest-like mods.
