EDITORIAL | Gramicci Autumn/Winter 22 by eye_C
For Autumn/Winter 22, eye_C has orchestrated an editorial featuringGramicci, the archetypal climbing brand balancing the utmost formand function, and some of its key styles that have forged along-lasting legacy.
As a stonemason and keen climber, Mike Graham firmly held the belief thatclimbing wear should not be restrictive for the wearer. In 1982, he foundedGramicci with the idea of providing climbers greater ‘Freedom of Movement’whilst scaling boulders, rock faces and indoor walls. In the early stages ofconception, he looked to a whole host of places to ensure that his inauguralproduct, a pair of climbing shorts, met the specific demands of the activity; forreference, a diamond-gusseted crotch was found on a pair of kung fu trousersand workwear products inspired the use of durable canvas in hard-wearingareas. In the 40 years since, Gramicci products have transcended beyondclimbing to skaters and outdoor enthusiasts due to their synonymity withdurability, affordability and freedom of movement.
The G-Pants
One of Gramicci’s earliest conceptions, the G-Pants, could just be theirmost iconic creation and a true testament to the brand's methodology.First introduced in the early 1980s, the G-Pant was introduced as ameans to solve a problem, an overwhelming lack of functionalclimbing pants. Designed with climbing in mind and a function-firstmantra, the G-Pant is recognised for its hard-wearing and lightweightnature, as well as an abundance of functional details that aid the wearerduring activity, including a diamond-shaped gusset in thecrotch - borrowed from kung fu trousers - that allows for 180-degreeflexibility. A relaxed shape provides plenty of room around the waist andan integrated nylon belt is convenient for loosening and adjusting thepants at a moment's notice.
The Gadget Pants
Adhering to a more relaxed, loose-fitting silhouette than its G-Pantcounterpart, The Gadget Pant is another resurrected classic fromGramicci’s back catalogue. With this pair of bottoms, you’ll have noqualms when it comes to haulage thanks to the two spaciouscontrasting canvas pockets that extend from the front around to theback. In addition, the added webbing at the pocket allows for youto carry sunglasses or a water bottle, for example. Just like theG-Pant, they are as hard-wearing as they come, constructed usinga similar twill fabric and incorporating the same distinguishableintegrated nylon belt.
