Inside sacai's Recently Refurbished Aoyama Flagship Store
sacai’s flagship store in Aoyama was first opened in 2011 and has since stood as an exhibition of the brand and its design commitments. However, after nearly 12 years, sacai has welcomed a renovation and refurbishment which has been undertaken by architectural designer, Yusuke Seki, whose process is informed by ‘Destruction and Regeneration’.
Holding on to some original features of the Aoyama store, the space has been redesigned to reflect the present and future direction of sacai, as well as its somewhat unconventional design practices that are not bound by tradition. Largely surrounded by concrete, Seki has implemented contrasting features such as LED light panels in the ceiling, sharp pops of colour and square fittings to display items on. From here onwards, the Aoyama will be a resting place for sacai’s men’s and women’s seasonal releases, collaborative goods and Aoyama exclusive products.
