HaaT Spring/Summer '20

HaaT Spring/Summer '20

Part of the Issey Miyake family, HaaT -- crafted by the hands of the umbrella’s former textile director Makiko Minagawa -- further induces color and the pure essence of the word effortless with their SS20 collection entitled “South Pacific.”

Inspired not only by storied garments themselves but also the nature surrounding, the Japanese label’s range somehow turns the ethereal into something tangible as they utilize a vast array of techniques in forms characteristic of the southern hemisphere. Basking in inherited tradition, the pieces, whose very being is at times composed of a tapa cloth hailed from tree bark, are all statements in and of themselves: tops flow freely in an amalgamation of dress meets shirting with more substantial outerwear boasting structure without discomfort. Prints, though with few neutral exceptions, are seen in many a style from one offering to another as full suits -- part collared top and the other skirt -- outfit in palm tree motifs while accompaniments the likes of stand collar button-ups, sheer, oversized scarves, and wide cut trousers paint a scene of whimsical florals and authentic shibori dyes. Elsewhere, jacquard prints poke through by way of crepe fabrics, whose base opts for hard-twisted yarn in an aim to sculpt a texture thin and light.
