In addition to crafting some of the finest garments, visvim has remained a educational hub, describing their production process in detail to remain transparent, inform customers, and retain old-fashioned traditions alive. Their latest SS19 dissertation takes a deep dive into specific SS19 products and the techniques used to craft them.
One of the prominent patterns utilized in the latest collection is the Hyakunin-Isshu, a classical Japanese anthology of one hundred Japanese poems by one hundred poets. This abstract imagery is depicted by geometric patterns repeatedly stenciled onto a crepe fabric with 10 pieces of hand-carved Ise-katagam (paper stenciles). The bright colors paired with the relaxed fit of the Free Edge Shirt and Halter Dress provide comfort and breathability for the warmer weathers. The dissertaiton also describes the latest iteration of the Skagway sneakers, a new type of vulcanized sneaker with a molded PU cup sole for shock absorption and a canvas fabric upper lined with soft cow leather.
