superNova Autumn/Winter '19
Once a part of the rich nepenthes universe, designer Takashi Yamaguchi is back once more with his somewhat more newfound label superNOVA. AW19 is a mixture of ordinary seasonal staples though shined through a lens of no ordinary clarity.
Ethos is carried over from collections prior, mindfully observing expectations of timeworn mainstays and presenting them in a way heaps more interesting. Wool overcoats, though made in varieties from all sorts of fashion houses and up-and-comers, are shown here in massively oversized cuts and enhanced lapels; their underlying layers of plaid-patterned shirting and turtle neck sweaters are then modified with cropped bodies and loose collars, respectively. Animal prints add brightening flair to a range largely composed of singular tones, though they just barely steal the show from the vibrant primary colors. Coaches jackets, loose track tops, pleated trousers are the most simplistic in their presentation. Same can (mostly) be said about the guest starring fleece blouson, whose toggles hang from the edge of the fasteners and whose double zipper adds just a touch of extra utility to the all-time classic.
