THE KEIJI Pre-Fall 2020
Japanese designed though New York based, THE KEIJI recalibrates sartorial tailoring for a womenswear audience, often employing inspiration from many contemporary mens classics. The bi-continental label, with their Pre-Fall collection, opens the doors to the new year slowly with a range of basics turned avant-garde.
At its core, the range seems married to the office aesthetic, outfitting with a sense of power within the hierarchy of a workplace dynamic. Large lapels, statement patterns, and wide, almost imposing cuts steal the show, turning sportscoats and the like inside out by way of a femine mystique. Bright reds adhere to funneled turtlenecks and poncho-esque cardigans with olive, navy, and black neutrals covering much of the rest. These take the shape of nylon bombers sans military effect, even tops whose general guise nods to timeless staples in passing. Moreover, a split motif seems to steer towards the adventurous, mixing fabrics as well as styles as denim jackets end halfway to meet a plaid double-breasted blazer or a trench coat.
