White Mountaineering Reinterprets COLMAR's Skiwear for AW20
White Mountaineering is no stranger to collaborations -- often joining the world of footwear alongside industry natives -- but their forthcoming project with COLMAR is near unprecedented in technical prowess. Given the chance to reinterpret the institution’s archive, designer Yosuke Aizawa has effectively melded these classics into the aesthetic of his own Autumn/Winter ‘20 collection.
Very obviously inspired by skiwear and the surrounding sportswear landscape, the few standout pieces appropriate COLMAR’s designs in various ways. Some, preferring to impress by way of color and construction, add vibrantly colored pockets and complementing aqua blue panels at the sleeve; the rest of the body, which is by and large more reserved, pairs a pleasantly incongruous brown in between -- a touch that transitions to not just one offering but also a wide array of different layering staples. From warming down parkas to lighter shells, each share one united theme that delves into neutrals just adjacent. But rather than simply coat in a flat black or white, they opt to adorn their materials with various all-over prints which range from uneven snow camo inspired patterns to darkened geometrics.
