UK's The Hip Store Chats with Awake NY and Reebok Classics for Their Latest Collaboration

Reebok Classics continues its strong run of collaborations as they join forces with street imprint Awake NY for a multi-item collection including the Workout Lo Plus and the Instapump Fury accompanied by an apparel line influenced by hip-hop and street culture. UK’s The Hip Store caught up with both Angelo Baque of Awake NY and Reebok Classics’ Leo Gamboa to chat about their link up, ‘90s nostalgia, and design decisions.

In the interview, Angelo and Leo discuss how the Workout Lo Plus was a staple New York shoe back in the day heavily associated with the likes of Wu Tang’s Raekwon while the Instapump Fury represented Japanese sneaker culture. The bold blue and neon yellow-green colorways imprinted on the leather and suede sneakers were selected for their heritage in Reebok’s identity. Meanwhile the apparel collection, which includes a Vector Track Jacket and Pants Set and two colorways of the Hockey Jersey invoke Angelo’s memories of editorials showcasing military cargo pants tucked into socks alongside athletic hockey jerseys. The two longtime friends go in depth on today’s climate in sneaker culture, their classic musical albums, and their favorite pasttimes.

Read the full interview online and stay tuned for its initial release on Friday, March 13 from Awake NY and Dover Street Market followed by a global launch on March 20 at retailers such as The Hip Store
