MERELY MADE Spring/Summer '20
A reflection of the founder’s personal interests and style, Korean label MERELY MADE balances its philosophies with an ever-evolving source of inspiration -- Spring/Summer ‘20 effectively borrowing from the beauty of the Eastern country’s pride and joy: Jeju Island. Known not only for its beaches and volcanic stone but also its serenity, the scenic destination interweaves its way throughout the collection’s many styles, each ostensibly curated for the locale in their light organic linens and loose, oversized styling.
And though only two years since their founding, the imprint has essentially made such an aesthetic their signature, with every garment arriving filtered through an identical design language. Even noragi tops are tuned to match; their loose, airy fabrics then resulting in a billowing silhouette whose collar transformatively mimics that of blazers. Its ecru backdrop then transitions to collarless Bohemian tops and cropped oxfords -- the latter noteworthy in its layering potential alone -- while, moreover, we find a series of beach-appropriate apparel that bears standout striping and linen materials near perfect for their intended use. Voluminous blousons sit nearby, recognizable for its subversion of slim silhouettes, while the Sunshine Coat does much of the same though with the use of side slits, a dark, more versatile black textile, and contrasting drawstrings along its hood. Elsewhere, you can expect to find short-sleeve basics refitted with snap button plackets, shorts intentionally elongated passed the knee, and a denim set whose fit is only made better by the low quantity Okayama selvedge.
