BODYSONG Autumn/Winter '20
Established for close to a decade, BODYSONG has not let time weather away its refined, resolute aesthetic — even the change to a now anonymous designer has had no effect. Every garment and the looks they fall within all encapsulate the image of 90s Japanese fashion, approaching oversized, aggressive silhouettes ripe with not only color but imaginative, free-thinking layering. Autumn/Winter ‘20, as it simultaneously prepares for the colder months far ahead, envelops both timeless and trending staples and turns them into something definitively of the label’s own.
From bomber jackets to somewhat smart satin-constructed shirting, the collection arrives with a very obvious depth, and though the aforementioned proffer their own relatively versatile standouts, the most unique variants are far more engrossing as they patchwork and color block to no end. Some of these bear retro inspirations on their sleeves -- at times literally -- while others shape to less straightforward displays of the eclectic; but even despite this diversity, the pieces themselves collectively thread together with a shared preference for the over proportioned. Flight jackets near mask the entire torso, ski parkas are enlarged to the point of being comical and parodical, and knitwear mark with drop shoulders and seemingly extended hems. Elsewhere, a few more unblemished mainstays such as the M65 coexist, dealing olive drab structure and attached pockets at their backs, while further basics deliver in the guise of simple accent hoodies, graphic tees, and much, much more.
