Nicholas Daley Menswear Spring/Summer '21

In the face of a global pandemic and with more time than usual on his hands, Nicholas Daley’s focus pivoted slightly and he took up karate. This newfound love, along with familiar cues such as reggae culture, has manifested itself into the presentation of his Spring/Summer ‘21 collection and leaves Daley to continue further exploring unique avenues of inspiration.

The collection, “Stepping Razor”, borrows its title from a 1977 song by reggae musician, Peter Tosh, who, coincidentally, was a fan of martial arts. By tapping into traditional karate attire and combining this with his usual utilitarian and functional approach to design, we get something that is familiar yet feverishly different from previous seasons. Slouchy, loose-fitting bottoms are strewn all through, differentiated by their patterns and choice of fabrics. Karate Gi - the term for traditional karate attire - is given the once over by Daley and features reinforced patches as well as contrasting stitching and graphic badges. Olive and blue tie-dyes can be seen on the long and short sleeve shirts complimenting the indigo and earth tones seen on other garments.
