Sage Nation Bridges Japanese and British Influences With Debut Collection
Predicated on its founder’s dual heritage, Sage Nation effectively bridges two cultures by way of a distinct and overtly personal design language. And while typically proffered on a smaller scale, the label is set to embark on their most expansive set piece yet with what they consider to be their debut collection.
The garments, though extremely diverse from piece to piece, are effectively the product of strict military-focused study. Sage Toda-Nation, the 21-year-old designer, spent a great deal understanding the core of combat uniforms, learnings that work their way into all facets of the range. Material, construction, and the overall design are made with a rare attention to detail -- all elements coming together to create the young talent’s idea of a “modular wardrobe.”
Practical yet dynamic, many of the offerings offer up multiple purposes, allowing most to be worn in a number of different ways. The Hybrid Detachable Jacket, which makes use of a removable upper, highlights this as it can easily be turned from jacket to a layerable utility vest. Moreover, the appropriately oversized Poncho delivers utility as both a piece of outerwear and bottom: the former being a typical fashioning while the latter something more interesting as it transforms into an adjustable skirt. Alongside, the imprint expands on a series of basics. A foundation in all senses of the word, these tops and trousers emulate universal staples with a fit and quality that blends in seamlessly with every one of the aforementioned standouts.
