MERELY MADE Autumn/Winter '20
MERELY MADE’s mainline collections often double as love letters to their travels, the designer opting to document the sights and culture through a myriad of different garments. And after a day trip to Jeju Island during SS20, the Korean label is heading a bit farther from home with a Peru-inspired Autumn/Winter ‘20 range.
And though affected by the craftsmanship of Incan and Mayan heritage, the imprint still makes use of a few of their signature influences. Hakama pants arrive under the guise of a new name -- “Nuevo Peruvian Pants” -- bearing a more fluid and flexible fit that constructs of a high quality Japanese wool known as Takisada. Reversible padded shirts then arrive in a similarly wide fit, made with a tweed textile on one side and a warming 3M thinsulate quilt along the opposite. Long-sleeve complements also arrive in tow, featuring elongated sleeves and a resistant Wind Stopper fabrication. What’s more, a series of cropped shirts are also making a return, allowing for more interesting layering with any of the aforementioned standouts; their Kuwamura cotton, which was used partly for comfort, also bears a texture reminiscent of the landscape the designer witnessed on his trip.
Alongside, the team are introducing two special creative projects. In honor of the overarching themes, they’ve tapped Korean tufting artist Young Eun Sung to help craft a special Peruvian Poncho. The piece, which honors the traditional design while infusing the brand’s personal culture, is 100% handwoven and foundationally built atop a heavy gauge indigo twill; both a cream and indigo blue colorway will arrive. Then, a mini capsule will release in parallel, debuting a series of new jersey wear that’s used along neutral toned tees and sweatshirts.
