Mountain Research Spring/Summer '21
What started as the cult label General Research back in 1993, Kobayashi Setsumasa’s Mountain Research now reflects the designers love for the outdoors which is effortlessly channelled through each passing season. As Spring/Summer ‘21 collections come thick and fast, Mountain Research is one of the latest to join the crowd.
While the outdoors and it's distinctive clothing style has been a focal point for brands, particularly Japanese ones, in the last few years, Mountain Research has been drafting off it for close to 15 years, but with an edgy, punk twist on the scene. This is only further reverberated by slogans such as ‘Anarcho Mountaineers’ strewn on panelled zip-ups, a statement that aptly sums up their way of doing things. Garments are utilitarian in many regards, with shirts, vests and jackets sporting multi-pocket designs, a feature synonymous with outdoor gear, as well as military, workwear and naval uniforms. There are a plethora of items showcased in this seasons lookbook including a number of madras-style drapey parka jackets, face coverings, bottoms adorned with patches, graphic tees and workwear-inspired outerwear. Remaining playful in their approach, Mountain Research once again fully delivers this season.
