Inside the Sato Kei Climbing Kiln Tableware Exhibition with Kagure

From May 29th until June 11th, Kagure LIMITED SHOP Osaka Takashimaya store will be hosting the ‘Sato Kei Climbing Kiln Tableware Exhibition’ which celebrates the works of Mr Sato and his pottery.

Sato Kei lives in Mashiko and works at the pottery kiln, Gyugama, which was built 17 years ago on the grounds of his home and studio. Mashiko is a town that is famous for pottery and this particular kiln is half the size of a conventional one you might find in the area. Despite its unassuming size, Sato can fire up to 1000 pieces of pottery in his wood-fired kiln at one given time and he can do this up to ten times a year. By using wood to fuel the kiln, as opposed to electricity or gas, the end product is highly unique and personalised. During the exhibition, Kagure will be offering products fired at this kiln, from cups and mugs to bowls and plates.
