UNION TOKYO Features Sage Toda Nation in its '15 Questions' Series
Sage Toda Nation of his eponymous label, SAGE NATION, is the latest designer to feature in UNION TOKYO’s ‘15 Questions’ interview series, which sees the retailer ‘features designers and key people from domestic and international brands handled by UNION TOKYO, asking them personal questions to analyze the appeal of their brands.’
Throughout the interview, Sage and UNION TOKYO go through the designer’s affinity with London and Tokyo as sources of inspiration, as well as how his heritage has informed his approach to work. Aside from questions about SAGE NATION, the designer is asked more casual questions that seek to unearth more about the personality behind the brand, from the items he collects to the vehicles he owns.

What is the most important thing to you when creating clothes?
"The garment itself is timeless. There are too many clothes in the world, and we can't add more meaningless things. When I create clothes, I start with the fabric, then the shape, and finally the details. I always aim to strike the perfect marriage between the fabric and the design."
What is your perception of Tokyo as a city? Please share both from a fashion perspective and from other viewpoints. “Tokyo, much like London, has played such a key role in culture and fashion over the years. It is a place of authenticity and has an energy to it that's hard to find. Both cities have influenced each other in terms of style in a really organic way over the years. I feel both cities are places of motivation and inspiration …. as. as long as you're on the right side of it.”
