Mountain Research Appoints Masahiro Abe as its New Chief Designer
Since its launch in 2006, Mountain Research has maintained the same head designer, Setsumasa Kobayashi, but now, the label is embarking on a new chapter under Masahiro Abe, who will take over Autumn/Winter ‘24 onwards.
Prior to his appointment, Masahiro Abe spent decades under Setsumasa Kobaya’s chief design assistant for apparel and footwear. To coincide with Abe’s takeover, the brand name is being updated to Mountain Research by A.M, with the additional ‘A.M’ an abbreviation of Anarcho Mountaineers, a frequent Mountain Research motif that is often applied to garments. Alongside his creative vision for the brand, Abe can expand Mountain Research’s horizons through his highly experienced career as a solo hiker, which is expected to breathe fresh air into the label.
