Kartik Research Reworks Iconic Baracuta Styles in Debut Collaboration
Today, Baracuta and Kartik Research celebrate their debut collaboration, which sees the pair produce a 6-piece capsule consisting of bottoms, tops and jackets.
Despite coming from different backgrounds, Baracuta and Kartik Research, an emerging South Asian label run by Kartik Kumra, find a commonground that offers the opportunity to explore the legacy of craftsmanship from their respective homelands. The result sees heritage-leaning British designs reimagined using Kartik’s signature design language, producing a lightweight cotton shirt and pleated straight-leg trousers, finished with traditional Zardozi floral hand embroidery with intricate beaded embellishment. A cotton-jersey hoodie with raw-cut edges completes this half of the range. Baracuta’s iconic B4 and B9 silhouettes are famed for their legacies, and become a canvas of expression for Kartik Research to leave its mark on. Integral features of the jackets are reimagined in line with Kartik’s philosophy; for example, Baracuta’s signature Fraser tartan lining is recreated on handlooms by local artisans while handmade embroidery seeks to preserve traditional methods that keep these communities afloat.
