XLIM Applies its Refined Touch to New Balance's 509

In a tale of firsts, XLIM has left its mark on a classic from New Balance’s noughties running catalogue, the 509. Where they would ordinarily operate on opposite planes, the unlikely couple find a common ground rooted in experimental sportswear.

The inaugural project follows Dohee Kim’s collaboration with New Balance, where the South Korean designer applied a highly unique and individual ice-dyeing method to the U509 style. In this instance, XLIM delivers the same bold colour combinations atop a 509, offering a refined look and all-day comfort. Hairy textured suede panels can be found lining the midfoot panels, collar and mudguard, while a diamond-shaped mesh base provides essential contrast and breathability, aiding the 509’s moderate performance offering. Signature N logos can be found on opposing sidewalls, while there is little suggestion of XLIM’s overt involvement aside from the colour palette. The XLIM x New Balance 509 will arrive in two colourways: a red with an overdyed yellow midsole and an all-black.
