UNDERCOVER Spring/Summer 19
UNDERCOVER by Jun Takahashi delivered a strong and diverse presentation of their Spring/Summer 19 collection entitled "The New Warriors" at Paris Fashion Week.
The collection was inspired by the 1970's cult gang film "The Warriors" in which 8 New York gangs engage in violent turf wars. Similarly, Undercover's collection focuses on 8 unique looks. "The Dead Hermit" features an ethnic, hippy look with braided head accessories and tan tops and bottoms. "Vlads", also a synonym for Dracula, expresses a gothic, punk feel with black jackets and trousers covered throughout with white abstract print. "Bootleg Truth" is almost folk-like with bright yellow leather jackets contrasted against black with checkered skirts and long patterned socks.
On the flip side, "Bloody Geekers" celebrates Japanese otaku and anime culture with casual everyday pieces like flannels, pullovers, and denim. Taken after motorcycle gang culture, "Zenmondooo" utilizes motorcycle helmets, gloves, and face masks, and subtly gives a sneak peak of their latest show collaboration with Nike, a sleek, futuristic racer-like take on the waffle racer. "X Shadow Hopper" is inspired by hiking and outdoor activities with ruck sack bags and multi-pocketed parkas. The models for "Larms", fitted with technical outerwear, had painted faces and held chained batons, almost like a post-apocalyptic mood. Lastly, "Zoruoe" features a Converse collaboration and oversized t-shirts with graphics of monsters attacking major cities including New York, Paris, and Tokyo. Jun Takahashi brought it all back to the original inspiration when each gang carried its own flag while walking to the intro music from "The Warriors".
