After graduating from the famed Central Saint Martins, designer Aya Takeshima quickly started his half-eponymous label ayâme, a play on his own name as well as the French word for spirit. From season to season, his expertise in textiles further begins to stretch its wings, though his first collection in the new decade plays on strengths just a bit more newfound as it splits one singular identity into both men’s and women’s pieces.

SS20 is quite perfect for the upcoming months, never getting too heavy across any of its core garments. Each, built to an obvious bit of scrutiny and meticulousness, is given texture by way of ruffles and flow through the use of extremely sheer yet quality fabrics. The latter, which is not gender exclusive one bit, sees to quite its fair share of styles as it outfits both short-sleeve tops, lingerie-esque dresses, and even a coordinated set of shirts and bottoms. Floral printed with violet petals or drawn in much lighter against white backdrops, the selection of materials largely control the main theme, as many of the designs themselves are otherwise quite unassuming in their torsos of small pockets or half-buttoned pullovers with contrast panels. There are, however, a few bold standouts on the womenswear side: in contrast to the basic tees and patchwork bottoms, the more elegant dress forms bear intrigue in spades as the line the figure with intentional wrinkles, frills, jagged hems, and much more.

Grab a good look at the collection right here and expect its release as we enter 2020.
