Ground Y Captures the Dystopian Mystique of Ghost in the Shell for its latest capsule
Anime and fashion sometimes go hand-in-hand, with designers often gathering influence from their dystopian wastelands and cybernetic-adorned character art. Though Akira has seen its fair share of time in the limelight thanks to sub-communities across the internet and coveted Supreme collaborations, its about time for the futuristic aesthetics of Ghost in the Shell to be featured and there is no label more fit than Ground Y, the subdivision of eponymous label Yohji Yamamoto.
All black fashion with draping silhouettes model after the likeness of well-loved classics with the animation’s influence finding its place in the form of stunning, overstated prints emblazoned along the front of the construction. Collared shirting and oversized tees showcase a subtle outline of the mysterious protagonist with a few garments subtly boasting connection in a print of Japanese characters across sleeves as well as rear bodies. All-over-prints which fade into black towards their bottom of long parkas are certainly the most colorful arrangements of the bunch, though all culminate in a collection as dark as its inspiration.
Grab a look at the pieces below and expect a release to hit Ground Y stores on April 19th and online channels on April 26th.
