Poliquant Autumn/Winter '20
Japanese label Poliquant fuses the two worlds of polite and piquant into their design which is simultaneously an expression of the brands identity. For their Autumn/Winter ‘20 collection, Poliquant expresses their take on streetwear through a functional lens.
Having grown up in an old, traditional town in Tokyo, Poliquant is commandeered by Jun Sugita who immersed himself in Tokyo’s street culture and skateboarding as a youngster. These two interests have informed the way Jun thinks about design and it filters into each garment he produces under his label. Featured in the collection is a slew of tech-heavy garments including multi-pocketed parkas, modular vests, graphic-imbued pieces and utilitarian luggage, as well as a plethora of other functional items. One piece in particular is a pocket-laden parka jacket that dons multiple bulbous pockets, serving as a middle ground between an outerwear piece and a luggage accessory; it’s available in a coyote brown/black colourway. The outerwear may be impressive, but it doesn’t overshadow other elements from this season including the graphic-clad sweatshirts and tees - a testament to Sugita’s streetwear roots. Technical fabrics, such as Cordura, are rife throughout which only seek to further the functionality of their Autumn/Winter ‘20 range.
