Song for the Mute 21.1

Australian label Song for the Mute continues to navigate mens and womenswear with the latest textiles, designs, and patterns for their Spring/Summer ‘21 collection. Notated simply in number format, the 21.1 collection called “NAÏVE”, shot by James Tolich and styled by Stephen Mann, explores the imaginative and playful themes of child-like curiosity that was inspired by Creative Director Lyna Ty’s long term partner Karim Goaloul.

Serving as a reminder of youthful, carefree memories, Song for the Mute’s latest garments utilize seasonal fabrics that manifest this theme. Workwear and utilitarian pieces are often non-proportional, coming in oversized silhouettes while featuring chalkboard doodles, tie-dye color patterns, and building block-inspired weaves. Additionally, the hands-on art style of printing Ty’s personal 35mm photographs onto garments is reminiscent of youth art projects. The label continues to utilize their signature hand-stitch thread designs of animals and interior design with embroidered patches of Gaaloul’s drawings finished with hanging string. While both men’s and women’s collections incorporate interchangeable pieces, often combining light outerwear with layering pieces, the women’s collection shines with elegantly patterned dresses and draped skirts. Accompanying the garments are their continued accessory collaboration with New Era and a puppet series of puppets featuring Karim’s hand-sculpted characteristic ‘heads’, each one with outfits created by Lyna.

Stay tuned for the 21.1 release at global retailers including Dover Street Market, SSENSE, Beams International Gallery, and Selfridges as well as their website.
