Sillage Uses Ceramics to Immortalize the New Balance 990v3
No shortage of ideas, Sillage’s Yuthanan has expanded far outside of garments in recent months -- his latest project enlisting a local Nagoya artisan to take on the task of immortalizing the designer’s favorite shoe, the New Balance 990v3, through a ceramic incense holder.
Modeled after Yuthanan’s own 2-year-old pair, the creation leans towards realism instead of the picturesque. Toe boxes visibly depict wear -- drooping down ever-so-slightly where there would typically be mesh -- while the tooling itself is flattened marginally relative to the deadstock. Lace holes are actually cut out for further immersion, accenting far darker than its pristine white base. “N” logos, though removed of reflective strips, overlay with pronounced dimension much like the adjacent “paneling,” finishing what is undoubtedly a heartfelt and painstakingly detailed homage.
Fitted with the holder at the heel, the pair is soon ready to step into your own doors upon their May 6th release date at Sillage’s Webstore.
