Arnar Mar Jonsson Spring/Summer '21
Iceland-native Arnar Mar Jonsson has been gaining traction for his forward-thinking take on urban garments for the modern wardrobe. Drawing influences from the sensibilities of Iceland and the city culture of London, the humble designer alongside co-founder Luke Stevens presents the eponymous label’s Spring/Summer ‘21 collection, incorporating both artisanal and technical construction into the performance-infused clothing.
While the lookbook styling is minimal in nature, emphasizing the collection’s interaction with itself, the individual pieces are masterfully crafted through key techniques with the major one being tape seams. Contrasting herringbone tape seams highlight the construction of cream-colored ripstop zippered tracktops, convertible hooded vests, and ventile organic cotton anoraks while providing clean internal finishes and external stitch details. The tape seams also allow garments to be functional when worn in reverse while providing an alternate aesthetic. Arnar Mar Jonsson opts for overdying techniques to create unique shades and color palettes. Overdyed composition outerwear jackets and ventile track trousers constructed from heavy ventile cottons are softened through this process while maintaining waterproof properties. Meanwhile, paneled patch pockets add shape and flow to sports-inspired track trousers and utilize a complex dual entry patch pocket system, allowing wearers to access internal zip pockets as well as front and back pockets.
