Ostrya Autumn/Winter '21

While techwear has entered the mainstream fashion world as it expanded from its primary function for outdoor use to urban and streetwear settings, relative newcomer Ostrya has separated itself from the rest of the pack as they make their gear purposefully and responsibly in Canada. Their latest Autumn/Winter ‘21 collection is a reinforcement of their mission to offer high-quality, locally made mountain equipment.

Co-founders François-Xavier Tétreault, Simon-David Fortin, and their team take into consideration every detail and user feedback from real-world testing to ensure their gear provides the necessary functionality such as warmth, weight, packability, and repairability. Such factors led to the selection of local Canadian goose down as insulation material for their Denali Down Parka, a lightweight, packable jacket suitable for extreme alpine conditions due to its high neck feature and multi-zip storage. The Cambium Hard Shell Jacket, which is Ostrya’s take on the signature shell silhouette to keep users dry in any situation with its DWR finish, is made in their Montreal workshop with 3-layer breathable and waterproof polyester fabric that 100% industry surplus fabric. The midlayer selection is highlighted by the warm yet cozy Bluebird Shearling Pull-On equipped with a quarter neck zip for the stand up collar. Meanwhile, bottom offerings include the Hardy Canvas Pants, an all-purpose double knee cotton duck canvas pant that is sturdy yet comfortable, alongside the more technical Alpine Soft Shell Pants remains breathable, waterproof, and wind resistant for high intensity mountain activities. Adding eye-catching boldness to the collection are exciting colorways ranging from dark Plum to neon Dandelion as well as playful accessories including Swirl Beanies and even functional jackets for dogs.
