FEATURE | Satta x adidas Originals by eye_C
For Spring/Summer ‘22, Satta, the ever-evolving label that is firm on establishing a deeper connection between the natural world and garments, has collaborated with adidas Originals on two footwear silhouettes that remain clear-cut with both parties whilst making small inroads into sustainable design on a larger scale.
The fruits of this match-up include a collaborative take on adidas’ ‘New York’ and ‘Gazelle’ styles with some necessary overhauls in place to adhere to Satta’s strict values. At the beginning of the design process, each silhouette was stripped back to its core and the possibilities of what could be achieved in a conscious manner were considered. For example, the lace toggle on the New York is typically made of virgin plastic but Satta was dead-set on using recycled plastic sourced from bottle scraps and ocean waste.
“The partnership has been established to authenticate the brand’s future towards a design process which is more in balance with the planet; a genuinely purpose-driven collaboration to re-imagine conventionally used footwear methods. We created a footwear collection that is made with nature and is designed to return it.
Both footwear styles honor the purest form of a material possible. For us, it’s about creating a culture where sustainability is inherent in all that we do. Small steps, ones that are honest and transparent, create big change.” (Tobias Hain, Product Manager adidas Originals)

Putting sustainability at the forefront of this particular endeavour, each pair channels a distinctive aesthetic that mirrors Satta’s holistic approach to design, seeking to only utilise the purest materials they could source like organic cotton, recycled wool and polyester without unnecessarily processing or dyeing them. The result? Shared uppers that are constructed using a plethora of consciously sourced materials like hemp, cork, organic cotton and wool. Other touches include cork inserts and heel tabs, a recycled rubber sole and Abaca fibre laces - a natural textile.
