UNDERCOVER Pays Homage to Pink Floyd for Spring/Summer '23

UNDERCOVER Pays Homage to Pink Floyd for Spring/Summer '23

During Paris Fashion Week, Jun Takahashi’s UNDERCOVER namesake unveiled its Spring/Summer ‘23 collection.

Jun is no stranger to referencing cultural artefacts from the 1970s, a pivotal decade for him growing up. For SS15, he made reference to the punk band, Television, and incorporated the graphic artwork from two of their albums, Adventure and Marquee Moon. More recently, he has paid homage to Stanley Kubrick’s works of The Clockwork Orange and 2001: A Space Odyssey, often reappropriating their graphics and implementing them onto silhouettes like outerwear and tees.

For Spring/Summer ‘23, Jun has looked to the British rock band, Pink Floyd, and their ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ album as well as motifs from Wish You Were Here for some graphic inspiration which has been executed onto a number of outerwear styles like a denim trucker, bomber jacket, fishtail parka and half-sleeve poncho.

The rest of the collection seeks to reinvent classic styles like the suit jacket and trousers by adding military-inspired details like zippers - much like the ones you would see on flight pants - and other printed matter like Woolrich-style plaid and all-over motifs. Lastly, we see mainstays like cardigans, sweatshirts and shirting thrown into the mix, delivered in UNDERCOVER style. With many of the runway looks featuring sunglasses, we certainly welcome the accessory making a return for Spring/Summer ‘23.
