Studio Nicholson Debuts its Inaugural International Store in Tokyo
To join its existing Soho flagship, Studio Nicholson has announced the opening of its first flagship store in Tokyo, Japan, which serves as a full-circle moment for the brand, returning to the country that has offered bounds of inspiration.
Located in the shopping district of Aoyama, it has been purposefully designed to offer the full Studio Nicholson experience in a suitable environment. Much like its existing Soho store, the interior of the Aoyama flagship is a considered blend of natural and man-made materials which echoes the alluring silhouettes and textures found in Studio Nicholson’s garments. Flooded by natural light, there are floor-to-ceiling windows throughout, a gloss concrete floor, solid oak plywood frames and a brutalist concrete exterior, a true showcase of natural versus man-made. The 71 m2 store space is home to the entire Studio Nicholson product range across men’s and womenswear, in addition to the brand’s footwear and accessories offering.
When asked about the significance of opening a store in Tokyo, Studio Nicholson’s founder and creative director, Nick Wakeman, said the following: “I first came to a perfectly ordered Tokyo back in 1999. Arriving from a grimy nineties London, I found everything in Japan was impeccable, well ordered and clean - the tonal beiges, browns and creams and the light in Japan, fell in love with it. Tokyo has informed all my design taste levels over the past two decades. This store opening is the brand coming home.”
