LEMAIRE Opens the Doors of its First Tokyo Flagship in Ebisu, Shibuya
LEMAIRE has opened its first Tokyo flagship in Ebisu, Shibuya, a quiet sanctuary away from the metropolis's hustle and bustle.
Nestled inside a former private residence initially built in the 1960s with an adjacent garden, the boutique found its home in this tranquil Shibuya neighbourhood, providing shoppers with a calming experience which encourages guests to relax and immerse themselves in the LEMAIRE vision. The two-storey building gives priority to local craftspeople who uphold traditional methods. The walls are covered with traditional Japanese plaster while Sudare bamboo blinds, handmade from straw, sit alongside sliding Shoji paper screens. Signature fixtures such as a reproduction of Freud’s couch can be found in the living with three vintage kilim rugs, handwoven wadded panels or abaca mats.
In addition to showcasing LEMAIRE garments, the Ebisu flagship will serve as a cultural intersection whereby communities can connect. Exhibitions, concerts, musicians and cultural experiments are encouraged to attend and share their outlook.
‘We chose this house to underscore the natural connection between our collections and a domestic atmosphere,’ describes Christophe Lemaire and Sarah-Linh Tran, LEMAIRE’s artistic directors. “Our pieces are crafted for everyday living and designed with the allegory of a perfectly proportioned home as a protective shelter in mind.”
