RAMON RIVERA Draws from Spanish Attire and Novelas With AW21 Collection
Following a few years at Calvin Klein, Ramon Rivera and his eponymous label embark on a second collection that further explores the designer’s own heritage. Dubbed “The Infant with the Globe,” the range expands on an already reference-rich vocabulary, drawing inspiration from not just Spanish attire but also novelas.
The playfully cartoonish set amplifies the at-times whimsical nature of the pieces themselves. And yet every look -- while a vignette of a story purely fictional -- is made tangibly immersive thanks to a meticulous attention to detail.
By way of the high-low waistbands, cravats, and protective spats, the 19th century influence is made ever-clear. But the styling quickly and suddenly begins to progress forward, as the aforementioned is then paired with more contemporary and militaristic styles. This takes a number of different forms: more notably, tailored suits that proffer a boyish look akin to private school uniforms. Moreover, utility jackets, ponchos, cinched-back outerwear, a wide range of shirting, and much, much more join alongside.
