The Wandering Wit Dissects The Genre Of Man For Autumn/Winter '19

Rather than be defined by it, The Wandering Wit prefers to entirely reconstruct the context of clothing itself. Painstakingly dedicated to his craft, from every single stitch to stitch, Gabriel Ting, a talented Toronto hopeful, lands on yet another curated collection of made-to-order garments entitled appropriately and poetically as the “The Caricature of He.”

Backed by an impressive display of styling and fittingly ambient video compendium, the range fleshes out one core concept: “this is who man isn’t is.” Understanding the many genres referenced and straying as far away from them when possible, Ting utilizes an array of different fabrications to create workwear-inspired forms, utility-ridden tops, and floral masterworks, all expressive of the distinct avenues of personality. Outerwear does the brunt of the work in exemplifying his own technique and message, some dressing up with circular denim appliques in the shape of a playful snowman with others donning patterns akin to the most pleasant of petal-covered wallpaper. Elsewhere, his “Oval Office Blazer” and “Lumber-Pearl Jacket” do well to expand on the luxurious and formal side of the stylistic spectrum: the latter piece doing so with structured materials and elegant button fixtures with the former choosing to flourish in accentuated lapels and embellishments that make it more fit for the outdoors than stuck at a 9 to 5. Shirting -- which ready up in both light and heavy bearings -- are pleated at their backs for a yoke almost western in its shape or given enlarged “U Pockets” down towards their hems. It's on the latter we see but one example of subtle patchworking, with Frankenstein himself likely proud as sleeves opt for pinstripe wool, torsos a quality herringbone, and compartments a dark navy twill; the “Puff Jacket” is of a similar energy though with much louder, geometric decor.
