UNDERCOVER and Nike Bring the Rain With Their Latest Winter Collection
Creating his own little universe within the Nike umbrella, Jun Takahashi of UNDERCOVER continues to make collaborative history, bringing about an expansive set of footwear and apparel designed solely with the winter season in mind.
The range of garments are quite diverse yet connected in their palette and graphic design. The latter, which is arguably the most simple feature, all in all, forms clean lines through simple yet aesthetically iconic typography as ampersands and signature motifs of “CHAOS” and “BALANCE” drive the readable message. Spell outs of the designer’s namesake and label are found near an assortment of swooshes in various sizes, crowding the backs of the starring Fishtail Parka. Despite the choice of either black or red, the piece itself speaks in heavier volumes by way of its structural accents: diamond patterns all along the upper as well as its inner quilting provide moisture wicking weather-resistance and enhanced warmth, respectively, while its translucent watch window and many pockets pay mind to some of your everyday essentials. Elsewhere, more basic hoodies, tees, and cargo trousers keep in line the UC standard through the lens of Nike production.
As important as the garments have become within his check-marked collections, the sneakers themselves will always be at the helm. Never a stranger to quite the historic release, the Japanese fashion rebel is set to take the Air Max 720 into his own direction, forgoing the technical route it often prefers with its inline drops and pushing it towards a realm of contrast speckling and various hits of overbranding. “UNDERCOVER” stamps right at the peak of the toe and the see-through cushioning emblazons with “WE MAKE NOISE NOT CLOTHES,” a signature slogan for the brand. Standing out even further, however, the newfound React Boot model is something out of a punk-tinged, rain-ridden dystopia as it takes a standard template and adds aggressive panelling, proprietary cushioning, and a shape almost immediately recognizable as one of UNDERCOVER’s own. Futuristic neon tubing creates handles for easy on and off, an accent not too misplaced next to the giant center line zipper and its warping constructions of glossy synthetic and seemingly distressed leather components. What’s more, the pair hides Air pump tech at its ankle for comfort to your own desired specification.
