DAIRIKU Spring/Summer '20
The young DAIRIKU continues to put up strong pieces with even stronger thematic backings, further fleshing out a style unique to them since all the way back to their inaugural collection in 2018. Reaching yet another milestone, the Japanese label brings a return to their cinema-like ambiance in a SS20 range fittingly entitled “Beachside Hotel.”
Playing off this, the range explores classic warm weather styles with more transitional pieces strewn about. Thinly constructed outerwear bears workwear essence pushed to contradictory vacation-level comfort matched by the accompanying Hawaiin shirts emblazoned with neon-tinged palm trees and sunset backdrops; these very motifs form their way into a set thanks to a matching short with variations coming through in alternate palettes. Trousers are deep in breadth as well, affixing contrast stitches to otherwise ordinary double indigo denim while leaving slacks -- of ecru, brown, black, and other neutrals -- mostly unadorned save for a classic pleat. Coats come through with accentuated buttons along pastel constructions in simplicity, a concept stretched to work jackets, denim chore coats, overalls, and an assortment of oversized blazers. Layering ensembles are among the most unique due heavily in part to appropriated pajama tops, pullover vests knitted down to frayed hems, and camp collar shirting embroidered with subtle dragon imagery.
