New Balance TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO's Bold Redesign of the 574 Model is Functional Yet Minimal

New Balance TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO's Bold Redesign of the 574 Model is Functional Yet Minimal

New Balance’s boundary-breaking branch TOKYO DESIGN STUDIO has reinterpreted the signature 574 silhouette, which was originated in the 1980s, with a full redesign that strips iconic details while implementing the latest technology.

While following the classic design code of New Balance footwear, the TDS 574 has a contemporary look with a muted color palette upper constructed from a textured suede mixed in with mesh-like materials at the tongue, ankle, and tongue. Despite retaining most of the original 574 shape, the most eye-catching change is the bold removal of the side "N" logo as well as the shark sole jointly developed with Vibram for unparalleled comfort and a refreshed silhouette. A deeper look at the sole showcases high-quality construction details, specifically the use of the edges used for dress shoes, and New Balance branding on the tab and in their lace accessory. The TDS 574 release is celebrated with an accompanying capsule collection of cut-and-sewn hoodies, T-shirts, tapered pants, and socks coming in neutral colors as well as a bright sky blue.

The TDS 574 will be available at New Balance retail stores, online stores, and various Japan retailers starting May 7.
