COVERCHORD Sits Down With MARMOT CAPITAL Designer Kikuno Kiki
We have followed the journey of MARMOT CAPITAL from its teaser in January to its inaugural release in September, and now we are hearing from its head designer, Kikuno Kiki, courtesy of COVERCHORD.
For those who may be unaware, MARMOT CAPITAL is a diffusion line of the established outdoor label, Marmot, and it is headed up by Kikuno Kiki of PURPLE THINGS and previously United Arrows & Sons. It borrows outdoor-inspired functionalities and integrates them into street-ready silhouettes that have been extracted from the brand’s archive. Sitting down with COVERCHORD for an exclusive interview, Kiki spoke about how she became introduced to Marmot, expressing uniqueness and originality and working as a freelance in a busy industry.
Check out an excerpt from the interview below.
COVERCHORD: Based on the concept of ‘COMFORT and FREEDOM’, you propose unisex clothing that can be worn not only outdoors but also on the street. Please tell us about the thoughts behind the concept.
KK: The concept of "COMFORT and FREEDOM" is not only the brand concept, but also the keyword for my own style and the style I am pursuing, and it is also my philosophy. It's a word that describes yourself. The materials are chosen with the premise that they can be worn outdoors, but there is an option to wear them in the city as well. The specs mean you can wear it for mountain climbing, but you can also wear it with slacks around town.
