STORY mfg. Autumn/Winter '20
Cherishing new pieces as they do past season staples, STORY mfg. has never lost sight when it comes to their stylistic range, and though themes have traversed far and wide from psychedelics to sage tea, its their impressive spotlight on sustainability and oft-unexplored themes that enable their narrative to shine. Sundae jackets surprisingly unincluded -- though the revered indigo handloom may still be present -- Autumn/Winter ‘20 now paints with an even broader stroke under the collection moniker of “Inner Reaches.”
A fervent passion for graphics, a natural reinterpretation of militaria, and lovable plant-based dyes are all at the helm, helping guide the image of the psychonauts found in the British Isles -- sailors of a different breed who live life through peace in various forms. Saeed and Katy, the married couple and founders of the label, have drawn heavy inspiration from these outdoor natives, informing the design via a vicarious point of view.
Dissecting and merging, the collection, from a glance, bears colors in spades: natural, seldom-dipped cool tones are among the most frequented, only adjacent to similarly shaded oranges and favorited pinks. These outfit two-pocket shirts of a characteristic wide cut, the texture ridden Polite pullover, and a zipped jacket that borderlines an overshirt and a coach. Elsewhere, more technical parkas seem to contrast by a small margin, yet they’re far removed from techwear in their patterned treatments of handwoven ripstop and a striking ikat. A custom made forest camo then rounds off the standout textiles, said to hide many an easter egg for the wearer to come across.
Playful embroideries, a return of their beloved scarves, and a vast assortment of current tees are here to explore, so grab a look at the full set of imagery just below. Their release will then hit select stockists as well the STORY online shop later in the AW20 season.
