Elhaus Melds East and West With Their Autumn/Winter '19 Collection
Drawing inspiration from the Wild West, traditional Japanese garments, and even more modern militaria, Jakarta-based label Elhaus effectively blends together their many inspirations in an AW19 collection entitled “Sound of Dust.”
A spectrum of different fashion fused together at times and at others firmly separated, the range is certainly one of their most diverse with 17th century tinged utility creating an undeniable dichotomy next to graphic hoodies and their own take on the BDU. The latter, as well as its accompanying style complements, are certainly the most straightforward in their total design: pockets are strewn about with quite a fair bit of volume along both sides of the chest, while grey tabs fill the spot reserved for name tags and duck canvas removes the usual ripstop. Bomber jackets by the name of “Hoover” go about the same general framework with more than double the amount of carrying capacity. The same can loosely be said for the “Vagabond” top whose noragi likeness is not lost save for in its various compartments and contrast webbing. Out of the entire collection, though, the “Wayfarer” and “Glide” shirting may seem to be the most out of place as their workwear ethos is largely uninterrupted across pinstripes and all-over graphics.
