COMME des GARÇONS and Nike Celebrate the Dunk Low in Two Ways
Effectively a follow-up to their now mythical Dunk High, COMME des GARCONS’ latest collaborative project with Nike picks up the iconic model once again. Doubling as both a totem of the imprint’s design language as well as an homage to the silhouette’s roots in Japan, the two-part pack of Lows bring opposing ideas that still share one core DNA.
Arriving first at Dover Street Market -- Rei Kawakubo’s equally notable retail endeavor -- the release highlights the frequently used Nexkin fabrication: a synthetic material whose see-through quality is most memorable from Off-White’s recent Air Jordan 5 as well as other GR classics such as the React Element 87 or the Vaporfly SP. As it constructs the upper in entirety, the signature panels are chiseled down as a result with black to grey shading creating a deceptively dimensional appearance. Heel tabs then mark with overlaid leathers, contrasting against either a neutral backdrop bereft of branding or a monogram-covered graphic that flaunts “cdg” in more maximal fashion.
Grab a look at both colorways right below, and while they’ll still see a release at other retailers down the road, the pairs will be exclusive to DSM on the scheduled May 14th date.
