Song for the Mute Presents Their 20.2 Djebel Collection Interpreted by Olgaç Bozalp
Australian-based label Song for the Mute has always had a gift for storytelling. 10 years in the business, Melvin Tanaya and Lyna Ty manifest their travels and roots in the physical form of contemporary, textile-driven garments. Their 20.2 collection entitled “Djebel” is no different as it is an homage to the Tunisian cultural heritage that shaped Lyna. Song for the Mute enlisted Turkish-born and London-based photographer Olgaç Bozalp to capture their 20.2 collection while reflecting his own heritage and creative practice.
Shot and cast on location throughout Istanbul, Konya and Cappadocia of his birthplace, Turkey, Olgaç Bozalp purposefully cast local natives to tell stories of their lived experiences in the rugged yet beautiful areas. With mountainous landscapes in the background, the locals are fitted in functional collarless field jackets and colorfully patterned trousers, detailed with their signature frayed strands. Striped shirt jackets and speckled knitwear are highlighted for their relaxed fit and versatility as they carry luggage overhead. The women’s line features elegant pieces including sheer linen-nylon checkered turtlenecks layered with vests and dresses crafted with a luxurious rug fabric topped off with distressed hems.
