PHINGERIN Autumn/Winter '20
Though often youthful and inimitably playful in approach, PHINGERIN continues to pivot towards the eccentric for Autumn/Winter ‘20, bringing along a surprising and well-inclusive creative direction. Modeled by two mature iconoclasts, the imagery turns the whimsically bold into a range of universal staples -- most garments equipped with bold colorings, loud, aggressive patterns, and unambiguously strong constructions.
Alongside the collection even proffers a slew of timeless pieces, showcasing the Japanese label’s command over moderation. Coating, which arrives in a bevy of different styles, is of the most ordinary, oversizing the classic format with olive wools and pronounced wood-accented buttons. Adjacent, simple overshirts match the general look of the latter, snow white mountain parkas are embellished with colorful mismatched snaps, and fur coats are marked with subtle contrasting threads. Rounded off with clean white shirting, quilted ties, and seemingly average slacks, the relatively simple batch perfectly opens for the more standout offerings: a selection that warps plaid prints while mixing together some of the brand’s signature icons. Slacks of all colors slim down at their leg thanks to the continued use of back-placed zippers, and each visually frames the vast array of tops whose color blocking leads to subtle patchwork, whose extra set of sleeves double as scarves, and whose trucker-esque template is given a hand-knit guise.
